Rotational velocities of A-type stars in the northern hemisphere. II. Measurement of v sin i
This work is the second part of the set of measurements of v sin i forA-type stars, begun by Royer et al. (\cite{Ror_02a}). Spectra of 249 B8to F2-type stars brighter than V=7 have been collected at Observatoirede Haute-Provence (OHP). Fourier transforms of several line profiles inthe range 4200-4600 Å are used to derive v sin i from thefrequency of the first zero. Statistical analysis of the sampleindicates that measurement error mainly depends on v sin i and thisrelative error of the rotational velocity is found to be about 5% onaverage. The systematic shift with respect to standard values fromSlettebak et al. (\cite{Slk_75}), previously found in the first paper,is here confirmed. Comparisons with data from the literature agree withour findings: v sin i values from Slettebak et al. are underestimatedand the relation between both scales follows a linear law ensuremath vsin inew = 1.03 v sin iold+7.7. Finally, thesedata are combined with those from the previous paper (Royer et al.\cite{Ror_02a}), together with the catalogue of Abt & Morrell(\cite{AbtMol95}). The resulting sample includes some 2150 stars withhomogenized rotational velocities. Based on observations made atObservatoire de Haute Provence (CNRS), France. Tables \ref{results} and\ref{merging} are only available in electronic form at the CDS viaanonymous ftp to cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.125.5) or viahttp://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/cgi-bin/qcat?J/A+A/393/897

Observations of Ubiquitous Small-Scale Structure in the Diffuse Interstellar Medium
We present results of a study of the Na I D interstellar absorptiontoward 17 binary and/or common proper-motion systems (including twotriples). The stars range in spectral type from O6 to A5, lie atdistances between 85 and 1200 pc, and have stellar separations between480 and 29,000 AU. We compare the Na I absorption present in each of thetwo (or three) lines of sight and find that the line strength and/orprofile varies for all 17 of the systems examined. We infer thatsmall-scale structure in clouds containing Na I is ubiquitous anddiscuss the implications of that conclusion.

Vitesses radiales. Catalogue WEB: Wilson Evans Batten. Subtittle: Radial velocities: The Wilson-Evans-Batten catalogue.
We give a common version of the two catalogues of Mean Radial Velocitiesby Wilson (1963) and Evans (1978) to which we have added the catalogueof spectroscopic binary systems (Batten et al. 1989). For each star, when possible, we give: 1) an acronym to enter SIMBAD (Set ofIdentifications Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data) ofthe CDS (Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg). 2) the numberHIC of the HIPPARCOS catalogue (Turon 1992). 3) the CCDM number(Catalogue des Composantes des etoiles Doubles et Multiples) byDommanget & Nys (1994). For the cluster stars, a precise study hasbeen done, on the identificator numbers. Numerous remarks point out theproblems we have had to deal with.

UBV photometry of stars whose positions are accurately known. VI
Results are presented from UBV photometric observations of 1000 stars ofthe Bright Star Catalogue and the faint extension of the FK5.Observations were carried out between July 1987 and December 1990 withthe 40-cm Cassegrain telescope of the Kvistaberg Observatory.

Dependence of seeing correlation on image separation at the CFH telescope on Mauna Kea
Trailed images of optical pairs of stars obtained with theCanada-France-Hawaii 3.6-m telescope on Mauna Kea were analyzed to studyseeing fluctuations. The data show that seeing fluctuations, evaluatedfrom the 'macroscopic' properties of a guide star image, i.e., imagecentroid and image width, are correlated for separations as large as 1arc min. Seeing fluctuations as frequencies less than 5 Hz werecorrelated for most image pairs in this particular data set. Higherfrequency variations were correlated only for pairs with separationsless than 8 arc sec. In a simulation of very high resolution imageryusing an offset guide star, the quality of detected program images wereimproved by as much as 70 percent. Guide decision times ranged from 10to 50 msec, depending on the observational circumstances.

Revised list of pulsating stars with ultra-short periods
A comprehensive list of 178 known Delta Scuti and RR Lyrae-stars ispresented. Using this revised list a HR diagram for these ultra shortperiod pulsating stars is plotted and the blue and red edges of theresultant instability strip are determined. Selection effects arediscussed, and the PLC relationship of Breger (1979) is tested usingdata from this list. Stars lying outside the defined instability regionare discussed.

Rocket ultraviolet imagery of the Andromeda galaxy
Far-UV electrographic imagery of M31 is presented which was obtainedduring a sounding-rocket flight with an electrographic Schmidt camerasensitive in the wavelength range from 1230 to 2000 A. The resolution inthe imagery is such that 50% of the energy from a point source isconfined within a circle 40 arcsec in radius. Two conspicuous featuresare observed in the UV image of M31: one corresponding to a brightassociation (NGC 206) in the SW region of the disk and one centered onthe galactic nucleus. Indications of the general spiral-arm structureare also evident. Absolute photometry and brightness distributions areobtained for the observed features, and both the central region and NGC206 are shown to be diffuse sources. It is found that the brightnessdistribution of the central region is a flat ellipse with its major axisclosely aligned with the major axis of the galaxy, which favors a sourcemodel consisting of young early-type stars close to the galactic planeand constitutes strong evidence against a nonthermal point source at thegalactic center.

Photographic measures of double stars. II
Measures are presented for 302 double stars photographed on 657 plateswith the 36-in. Lick refractor in the period between 1945 and 1962. Thedata provided include the observing epochs, the rectangular coordinatesof the secondary components with reference to the respective primaries, the mean errors of a single measurement, the computed mean errors, thedouble-star separations, and the position angles both for the observingepoch and reduced to the equator of 2000. An additional 561 unmeasuredplates of acceptable quality obtained between 1948 and 1960 are listed.

The manganese stars
Ultraviolet spectrograms of 194 middle and late B-type stars wereobtained in a search for Mn stars. The 24 Mn stars found in this searchlay within the limited temperature range from 0.33 to 0.48. Theirobserved rate of incidence and rotational velocity distributionsubstantiate the hypothesis that the Mn stars constitute a considerablefraction of the slowly rotating stars in this temperature range. If theatmospheres of these stars are sufficiently stable for diffusionprocesses to be effective, then it also becomes possible to account forthe temperature range in which the Mn overabundance occurs.
