Interstellar polarization in a southern H I cloud Polarimetric observations of 54 stars in the direction of a southern H Ifilament are presented. The observed polarization is in general verylow. A weak correlation between the angle of polarization and thestructure of the filament was found. By means of the variation of thepolarization with the distance, it is inferred that the cloud is locatedat about 350 pc. Comparing the observed polarization with the colorexcess, the low degree of polarization in this region is interpreted asdue to a projection effect of the galactic magnetic field.
